Intuitive Eating Shouldn’t Be The Goal
Intuition is a deep knowing of what your body NEEDS…
Not what your body wants.
You can't intuitively know how many Oreos to eat when your body does not have a physiologic requirement for Oreos.
You can't intuitively know how many glasses of wine to drink, because your body doesn’t become deficient in wine.
Eating intuitively is driven by energy and nutrient NEEDS.
Need means it is required by your BODY to survive and thrive.
But most "food" today is not real food, it's processed so much that our body is no longer in charge. Our brain is.
And almost 80% of Americans are overweight so they have hundreds of thousands of calories (energy) stored on their body.
Yet we want more food.
Wanting happens in the brain, not the body.
Trying to eat food that didn't exist 1,000,000 or even 100 years ago using intuition is like intuitively watching Tiktok.
Ridiculous right?
We have to consciously decide how much to scroll based on how it is impacting our life and happiness.
Just like we have to consciously decide how much booze, flour, sugar and crap to put in our bodies based on how we want our bodies to look and feel.
But we let our brains’ desires decide and that has nothing to do with our bodies’ needs.
If your body is thirsty, it needs water.
You may want Diet Coke or iced tea...but that is not what it needs.
If your body is tired, it needs sleep.
You may want caffeine or sugar...but that is not going to eliminate the requirement for sleep.
If your body is hungry, it needs protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals.
You may want chips or pizza but your body will still signal a need for nourishment.
If your body wants connection, you may want to scroll or watch a show when it needs humanity or nature...
What our body needs and what our brains have been taught to want are not the same thing.
AND
When you give your body what it actually needs first-
protein, nutrients, water, sleep, connection to humanity and nature...
Your brain will create less desire for all the manufactured pleasure.
Decide when and how much of this stuff works for you and your goals.
Processed food, booze, cigarettes, caffeine, screens, shopping, etc.
And then do what you say you’re going to do…at least 90% of the time.
This is what I teach my clients.
And I want to teach you. I am sharing the key to satisfying your cravings in a free class on November 10th.
